Ken | Dama League Season 2 had a historic 94 players signed up, making it one of the largest North American events in 2024. With over 300 played matches featuring our new competitive game mode: DAMA, Season 2 was a huge success, showcasing the power of both a non-Open competitive format and asynchronous online play.
Due to popular demand, KDL will be back again with some small tweaks, starting March 3rd.
For those who don't know, KDL is a week to week league, played via video, where players duke it out in their skill category, one move at a time. Our league features a non-open format of game: DAMA (rules can be found here). The League normally runs 8 weeks at a time and players are not eliminated after one loss.
In the past, we have hosted our league in a round robin format (players are randomly paired with other players in their bracket with no effects from wins and losses) however this season, we will be hosting both a Competitive category for each bracket as well as a new PickUP category for those players that need more flexibility.
The new PickUP category will allow players to opt in for a match every week, at their convenience, with no penalties for missing a week. Match results are still recorded and go towards a players overall points, but there is no overall winner in this category. Players may choose to play as few or as many matches as they wish in this category, ala carte.
The Competitive category has also undergone a facelift and will now utilize the Swiss tournament system. For those unfamiliar, the Swiss system is not elimination based or round-robin, but somewhere in between. Each week, players are matched against someone with a relatively equal record, winners playing winners, until an overall Champion is decided. Each match still matters for overall score and matches played in this format will go towards a player's overall player history (more on this in a future update)
Players may choose to participate in one or both brackets in their category, but there can be only one champion in the Competitive category!
Whether you want to hone your skills, learn new tricks, make new connections within the kendama community, or simply get some competitive experience under your belt for the next in person event, KDL is your home for continued growth.
If you want to play more DAMA, sign up today or get on THE LIST, and keep your eyes peeled for updates, signups, and exclusive drops. Registration for KDLS3 will close February 28th.
We look forward to playing with you soon!
